I watch Forensic Files on Court TV all the time.. Dental Charts help solve many crimes when there is no identification on a body or it has decomposed.. Teeth remain in tact. They can now even get some DNA out of the pulp deep inside the tooth now if it's not too old.. Usually people have had some dental work and these can be compared to some unique work done by some dentists.. Also, by the size of the teeth, they can usually tell if it's male or female and age of victim, among other identifying items.. Actually when there have been bite marks left on a victim's body, the forensic investigators can usually match up the teeth marks to a suspect beyond a shadow of a doubt.. Very interesting :-) Good Luck

Sure. Say you had a body without an ID card of any type. The fillings can be matched up with dental x-rays. If you had bite marks you can match that with dental records as well. You could do a "google" on forensic medicine and go from there. It is an interesting career field.

I guess the first person to answer forgot it is also used to identify victims.

Forensics in Dentistry
There's a valuable expertise called dental forensics. Dentists trained in forensics are skilled at identifying victims of a homicide or a disaster, such as a plane crash, a war or explosion. They helped identify the victims of the bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City. Today, they can establish positive identifications, sometimes in a matter of minutes with sophisticated computer identification programs.

Any crime that involves the use of teeth such as biting can be solved by dental records. Also if there is any evidence that a person who might be involved in the crime had eaten or taken a bite of something left at the crime scene can be used. Anything that someone leaves the impression of teeth in can be used. Lets say you take a bite out of a donut at someones house that you murdered and then throw it in the trash, the CSI's will find it and make a mold. They will then cross reference it with their data banks to try and make a match. Your teeth are like your finger prints! No two sets are the same.

I am so sorry for you, and I mean that with all my heart. I have my dogs teeth cleaned and it costs about $100. I am astounded that it cost you so much. Now, they could be giving me a discount because I have been going to them for so many years. Your vet missed something somewhere along the way. I can't believe he dismissed an obvious neurological problem so lightly. Several years ago I had a Boxer that got sick. I took her to the vet and $1000 later he just didn't know what was wrong with her. He had to go out of town and while he was gone she got worse. The girls at the clinic called me and I had them transfer her to another clinic. It just so happened that the vet at the new place was the son in law of the first vet. By then she was so sick he told me that he thought it was best to euthanize her. They did a necropsy and found a tumor the size of a football. I was livid to say the least, not to mention emotionally wrecked. I had to end up paying the first vet over $1000 and the stupid jerk did nothing for her. His son nlaw did not charge me one cent for the treatment, euthinasia, or the necropsy. That spoke worlds to me about how he felt about the whole situation with his father in law. I would have a necropsy done on your poor little dog and find out just what it was that she died from. Something is just not right here. Please know you are in my thoughts.
