Selectors want to have seperate Captain for the test team as they feel that Dhoni is too inexperienced to captain the team in test match as he is too inexerienced and may not be able to handle the pressure of captaining the side, keeping wicket and batting in the tough series against pakistan and Australia. Since Sachin Tendulkar declined to offer of captaincy, selectors chose Kumble as Captain as he is most experienced p,layer and popular with all the players in the team.

Anil Kumble has experience & maturity as a fantastic Test captain VS Pakistan bc, Anil Kumble was the Indian spinner that took 10 test wickets VS Pakistani batting defense so therefore, Indian selectors made a right choice or Captain Dhoni himself.
