Greece is absolutely amazing! And the photos do it no justice!

Assuredly, you will fly into Athens. Plan about two full days there. That's all you need. You'll see the Acropolis, shop and eat in the Plaka, and see a few more ruins scattered about. You can go to the National Museum, but unfortunately most of the original pieces are in the British Museum.

After Athens, you can either rent a car and drive to other destinations on the mainland or go to the islands.

I went to the islands. You go from the port in Piraeus (near Athens) and take ferry boats to the islands. Mykonos and Santorini are breathtaking.

You sometimes even find inexpensive flights on Olympic Airways to take you where you want within Greece. That will save you some time, especially if you want to go to far off islands like Corfu (which is between Greece and Italy). I actually found a really cheap flight from Athens to Istanbul, Turkey. Then on Turkish airways I flew to Izmir, took a short bus trip to Kusadasi. From there you can take side trips to Ephesus. From there I island hopped through the Greek Islands back to Athens.

Figure out how much time you have and then post another question for people to help you pick a few favorite places within your timeframe. There is just too much to see there!

The people are friendly, the food is fantastic, the water is so beautiful and blue, the sun is warm, and it has a very exotic feel. Never met anyone that doesn't like Greece!

I lived in Greece for almost a year. I did part of my studies in Macedonia and I had excellent time there. (I'm talking about the authentic Macedonia, the northern region of Greece, the birthplace of Alexander the Great. Not to be confused with FYROM -Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia- which is a modern Slavic/Albanian state at the north of Macedonia)
Greek people are amazing; honest, kind, friendly, very funny and a bit crazy too! : ) Greece is a beautiful country, I will definitely go back sometime to see more of it.

Hi
Greece is beautiful...and yes it does look like the pictures. I was there for 7 weeks. I found it to be extremely romantic. The warm air,the waters, the late night dinners(Greeks eat late) There was alot to see. The Parthanon was bigger than ever up on the hill. The air smells like olives! The people are very warm. The food is to die for. I would suggest renting a car so you can get around and see what alot of other travellers don't see because they are on a scheduled trip....get away from the tourist areas and you will love it! We spent 10 days on the Island of Santorini. We rented scooters and had a blast!... We also spent alot of time on the Island of Crete which was great!...alot of history.Greece is a wonderful place. Don't pass it up if you are thinking of going.

Greece was absolutely a surprise in our travel itinerary. We had been to several countries in Europe, North Africa along with Upper Mexico and lower Canada from Windsor to Nova Scotia. Our travel agent suggested Greece which had great interesting people, fantastic historical significance, fabulous weather. Many of the physical sites were unique to Greece . this turned out to be one of the finer travel experiences.
