I have to admit, I was a little Hulkamaniac when I was a kid, and I think the guy did a lot for the business and helped to sell it to the masses. But now, when I watch some of his old matches, I find them to be incredibly boring. I mean, his big finisher was a leg drop. Good character, yes, but now I think his wrestling ability was lacking. Your thoughts?

We have the exact same opinion...
When i was really young around 7-8 i didn't knew what wrestling is(i live in Greece and here wrestling is not that much popular for now) and i didn't knew any wrestler of course except from Hulk Hogan.I thought he was an icon and my grandpa has given me an action figure at that time. That proves how popular Hogan is/was even in a country that had nothing to do with wrestling at that period.
When i started to wtach wrestling,i thought that Hogan was the best wrestler ever, but after sometime on,i realised that there are many wrestlers around that are better.I started to be a regular fan, buying DVDs with older matches and wrestlers like Ric Flair,Harley Race,4 Horsemen and many more...
Hogan is still an icon and i have to admit that i was a Hulkamaniac too,Furthermore,i can admit that i believe he is the guy that made Wrestling famous in all over the world and he is the guy that many people sticked with wretling. He has decent in ring skills, great amount of Charisma and when he got pushed,he established himself...However,he is much worse thatn Flair,Hart,Race,Arn Anderson and many more great legends..
He helped the wrestling business generally very much (not only the WWF at that time). He is really boring and not only now but in the biggest part of his career.I was axcited when i was about to see a Hogan match and now when he is about to return in the ringfor a match..i am sleeping from my excitement..LOL!
Average wrestler,Big Charisma and superstars profile in his blood..that's what i believe Hulk Hogan is...

Well to those people that said he is overrated and boring. Well he deserves to be overrated for all that he has done for the company. Just like any other wrestler when you they get older they cant do the moves they used too, and can may become boring. You cant expect a 50 year old man too go out to the ring and do the moves he used too when he was 20. I think Hulk Hogan Rocks, and yes i am a hulkamaniac. Hulk Hogan has done a lot for WWF/WWE company. Hulk Hogan is what kept the business going there for a while. Ask any wrestler today, what was there all time favorite match, they'd probably say, Hogan vs Andre at WrestleMania. Hulk Hogan slamming Andre inspired many to become wrestlers.

You're right about all of that, but the man had more charisma than anyone. He PACKED the house, and that's the bottom line (sorry, Stone Cold). He never even had any amateur wrestling experience, but he was physically huge and played the crowd like few others could. He brought wrestling out of the enclaves and to the general public, and even made the cover of Sports Illustrated--now, THAT'S big. He became the biggest name ever in wrestling, and still is today, despite not even being involved with wrestling. He's beyond legend--he's an icon.

Hulk Hogan was great in the 80's, that's my opinion.

That stuff you see on TV is staged. It's a big performance. Terry Hogan was more of a performer then he ever was a wrestler. He did pick up Andre the Giant and he hurt himself in the process. I admit I am sort of a fan of his, but that is because of his "Hogan knows best" series on VH1.
Good luck

He was a good wrestler back then. In todays world of wrestling he's just another old timer tring to regain his youth. There are a lot more younger men out there that are taking over his spot. But I have to omit, his show on VH1 is really good.

hulk hogan is the most over rated legend of all time...no talent just all flash and fake muscles....he riped his shirt and did some arm gestures and fans went crazy...and a leg drop for a finisher is just dumb as hell....its a freakin leg drop who wouldnt be able to kick out of that...also he is a horrible legend due to the reason that he wont lose a match to anyone...so how the hell are you suppose to make a name for yourself if you lose to hogan all the time....hogan can stay out of the wwe for all i care...never cared for him expect when he was in the nWo......problem is tho he signed a 20 year contract with the wwe....6 shows a year...2 matches a year for 20 year starting in 2006....ending in 2026

Hogan is the one reason the WWF/E is what it is right now. Unfortunatly, like Nick Clooney, he will be living off the fame of his fast rising child.

your jaded by theatrics....horror movies for example...back in the 50,s it came from outer space was a terrifying movie..today if you look at it and compare it to say independence day its comical....same with wrestling..in the early days you didnt need alot of showmanship and extreme stunts to capture an audience...but as time goes on and the audience becomes more and more used to the same thing....than like the horror movies of the 50,s you need to expand it...make it more interesting...hence more daredevil stunts...more extreme matches...but unlike cinematics wrestling has to work with the human body and theres only so much and so far you can push that...so you had subplots...stories...rivalries..to keep it entertaining
