I don't get it. My teacher says haploid gametes (sex cells) undergo Meiosis.
BUT, the internet says diploid cells undergo Meiosis. Gametes are NOT diploid, they are haploid, right? So, I don't get which cells undergo meiosis. Body cells or sex cells??
I know diploid body cells undergo MITOSIS.
Also, the purpose of meiosis is to produce gametes, so how does it make sense that gametes undergo meiosis, to produce gametes?? Please is there anyone that can help me explain plz, I'd really really appreciate it greatly.

Rather than saying "haploid gametes undergo meiosis", it's more accurate to say "haploid gametes have been produced by meiosis". The gametes are the product of meiosis, not the cell that begins meiosis.
Regular body cells undergo mitosis.
Cells in the reproductive organs that make the gametes are the ones that undergo meiosis.
The cells in the reproductive organs are diploid. Meiosis puts these diploid cells through two divisions to make the haploid gametes.

Gametes are produced by meiosis. What happens is the cells in the reproductive organs are regular diploid cells. They undergo the regular process of mitosis, but then when two identical cells are produced, the chromosomes are not copied as they usually are in mitosis, and they are each split into 2 new cells with half the chromosomes. Later when the egg is fertilized by the sperm, they each contribute half the chromosomes to make the full set of chromosomes required for a diploid cell, which then undergoes mitosis to form a new organism.

the answer bob is actully very simple both cells go through this process because the are both involved in secxual reproduction . even though a sex cell is more involved a body cell is also involved to a sertain extent and there for has to go through this process .
