The French form Madeleine is less common. It's said mad-e-LEN, however.

There's also Madeline -- though again, technically MAD-e-lien (like the word "line") or ma-de-LEEN (another French pronunciation). Some don't bother to enunciate the ending, and wind up with MAD-e-lin anyway, but it's more a lazy pronunciation than the intended one, if that makes sense. ;)

Madelaine is the least common, actual form I'm aware of. It can be said like Madeleine (above) or with more a -LAYN ending sound.

Generally, however, you have to keep in mind that different forms of the name will not necessarily be said identically. Madelyn, Madeline and Madeleine all properly indicate different pronunciations (even if some aren't aware of them). So short of some misspelled monstrosity, such as Maddalynne or something (exactly what you mentioned NOT wanting LOL), you're not going to find another correctly said MAD-e-lin, as Madelyn would be.

You might also like Magdalene (with the MAG-de-len pronunciation), by the way. It's the original form of Madelyn and all the other variants, and doesn't even appear in the top 1000 most common choices (so certainly unique). ;)

I would suggest Madeleine. It's not the most unusual spelling, but it is fairly uncommon, and it the traditional spelling. She would be more unique with the traditional spelling than most of the "unique" spellings out there.

How about the way it's supposed to be spelled "Madeleine" Nobody uses the original spellings anymore so in a sense spelling it the standard way would be unique.

I always vote for using the standard spelling.

It's a very nice name, there's no reason to spell it differently.

My god-daughter is named Madeline and everyone calls her Maddy.
