I would discretely pick them out and not make a thing about it. I would only mention my dislike for onions if the hostess actually asked me.

If you are served a plate with everything on it, just scrape the onions to the side. If it is a pass around platter, try to omit putting the onions on your plate. If someone mentions anything, just say "I am so sorry I forgot to tell (the host) I am not a fan of onions( many many people do not like onions) If it's mixed into the recipe, you have no choice, eat everything else but that dish. It's either that or get sick... I would suggest that the next time you're invited to a dinner party, to mention to the host or hostess that you have allergies to ( and mention whatever foods they are) and I hope this doesn't cause any inconvenience...Thanks

Well chances are if your going to someones house.. they are your friend... so when invited you may ask what they are serving and what you can bring... you can mention that you don't want to be any trouble but that you simply don't eat onions...
If your invited to someones house you don't know well.. say your friends parents, then its best to eat what you can, try either to not take the onions on your plate or to leave them on the side of your plate without making a big deal of it...
Okay if you HAVE to eat an onion.... add a bite of something you like on the fork with the onion.. bite the bullet and eat it quick.. drink something to wash it down...

If they know you well, they should know that you hate onions and will prep something without them for you. If you are a stranger...just say that you are allergic to them, they will understand. I have lots of members in my family that HATE onions. I have a little cousin that HATES onions, won't eat them. I once cooked some pasta for him and used onions. He did not even notice them, because I cut them up really tiny. To this day...he tells me that was the BEST spaghetti he has ever had! HAHAHHA!

I would push the onions to the side and say sorry. I hate onions and refuse to eat any food with onions in it. I'll gag if I do, and I wouldn't want that to happen at the dinner table.

They invited you to their home to eat their food that they cooked & bought. Pretend you like them or push them around on your plate & leave them there. If they say, would you like onions say no thank you. But if the onions are put there then do the above. It's called etiquette.

I would have to politely tell my hostess I'm dreadful w/ onions and quickly assure her I will get more than enough with the other wonderful entrees she's prepared. That's better than barfing at the sight of them.

You feed them to the dog under the table. And if theres no dog you put the onions in ur pocket and feed it to the squirrel on your way home.
