It's a nice names that fits in well with recent trends (name that ends with -son, and the nickname Sam is quite popular)... But, it would be a huge drawback if your kid had that name and wasn't exactly muscular/strong. It might result in bullying and teasing.

Samson is a good strong name. My nephew's name is Samuel and they call him Sam.

I think of Samson wise from lord of the rings. but i think i watch too much tv.

I like it as long as you plan on keeping it Samson, and not shortening it to plain old Sam.... and for all the people that are going to say it will get shortened anyhow - it won't if that's not what you want...

Samson was a great and mighty man who was led astray by a woman and ended his life by committing suicide. A great name for your great dane, but not your son.
