I am debating on what to name my baby girl. I have Spanish names that are unusual. I too have an unusual name and many people love it and many don't. It is Lluvia which means "rain" in Spanish. I have learned to deal w/the surprise and sometimes amazement when i am introduced or say my name. So, i know what it is like to have an unusual name.
The names that i have are:

Itzel
Azul
Aryana
Cielo

Maybe i should stick to common names w/weird spellings?
Any suggestions?

I love Lluvia. It's like Esperanza. It paints a picture in your mind.

I dont' know what Itzel means.

The last three names are all beautiful, although I always hesitate to name a spanish daughter with a name that ends in -o, because it sounds somewhat masculine.

Keep your child's heritage intact by naming her a ethnically pleasing name.

My son's last name is Villareal. It was not so important for my daughter, for her name will change when she marries. But my son would have his name all of his life. So we named him Joel David Villareal. Easily pronounced in Spanish as in English.

Having an unusual name is great! Common names can get a little bland and boring...

But I do think you should stick with the most common spelling. It gets annoying when you have to constantly correct people about the spelling of your name (e.g. I know a Jezzica hates that she has to correct people all the time. They write her name as the more common 'Jessica')

I especially like the names Aryana and Azul... Although I prefer the similar names Ariana, Ariadne and Azula.

Itzel is fine. I think most have at least heard of it.

Azul would be TOO familiar for my taste. Any preschooler familar with Dora the Explorer will realize you've simply named her Blue! ;)

Aryana is simply a common misspelling of Ariana, not any Spanish form I'm aware of (if that's what you meant by the above comment). The Spanish translation would be Ariadna., which I do like.

And rather than literally Cielo, what about the related, but more familiar, Celia? That's a gorgeous option with an even better meaning! Not "too unusual" in the least.

"Maybe i should stick to common names w/weird spellings?" LOL! Too funny. And certainly not. ;)

I personally don`t like the name Aryana, but I love the rest! I like unusual names. And its your choice, after all. Everyone else can name there own kids the names that they like.
I think that a name that reflects your child`s heritage is great.

I love the name Azul and Aryana. Having a common name isn't fun. Growing up, there were 3 other Amanda's in my class. Azul or Aryana will really make your child stand out.

Azul is a beautiful name. It means Blue, right. I have a weird last name but it has attracted the attention of lots of people & I love it!

My sister's niece is named Aryana.
From your list I'd go with that one, or Azul.

i think that you suld give your daughter an anusual name, and then when she is old enough to decide, let her chose a nickname for her self.
my dad named me unusally, and with weird spelling my name is Keiyotiey (coyotee) and when i was a little girl everyone comment on how cute it was, blah blah blah, often unusuall names are cute. people call me Kell now, but i still prefer Keiyotiey from may dad.

i really like Aryana. it's original, but not too weird. I met a little girl named Arianna once, she was so adorable!
