if taking a q-tip and getting it moist (not wet) and then cleaning the part of the chip that contains the pins (the part of the nintendo game that looks like a computer chip at the bottom) doesn't work, you need to replace the 72-pin connector.

""but jim, i said i don't know what a 72 pin connector is!"
----- the 72 pin connector is a piece inside the nintendo. it is the part that touches the game chip. over time, oxygen reacts with the metal and makes it so that it doesn't transfer information very well. this results in the tv blinking.

to fix this, you need to buy a new 72 pin connector, which you can buy online, but you probably can't go to a store or anything. not just because it's currently pretty late, but because most stores won't have these parts.

Hi JO A, I see you have a problem. I am a 15yr old girl with a nintendo ds. I have over 15 games on it. I find it very addictive and sometimes when I am in bed I play with it untill 11:30pm. Although I am not allowed. It does make you tired looking at the screen for a long time and it sometimes makes your eyes hurt. Every game comes with a safety booklet. Have a qucik read. Lay down some rules, 2 miuntes of nintendo ds, for every 5 hours of the day. she will have 40-60 minutes playin time a day. Make sure she does not have it when she goes to bed, because then you will only have a grumpy child in the morning (trust me). Good luck. I must play with mine LOL. x

72 pin refers to the connector inside the Nintendo that connects
the Game Cart to the Nintendo.

Unfortunatly the design of the original Connector for the NES
was prone to failure.

When the 72 pin connector goes bad, it has to be replaced.
It's easy... I've done it like 6 times already. (on different units)
I've added a link showing how you can do this.

If you have any more questions feel free to contact me.

EDIT - You may also want to try cleaning your game. I
originally assumed you did this already, sorry..

you need to clean your system. problem is, right about now, you don't have a cleaner.
try this, because sometimes all you need to do is to clean the game. find some rubbing alcohol and find something that will absorb the alcohol but not leave lint everywhere. a used leather belt would be good, or a wide clean shoe lace. look at your game, the bottom, see the rectangle shaped gold colored metal objects on both sides of the card? soak belt/lace with some alcohol (not so much that it drips) and rub both sides of the middle card from side-to-side a few times. let air dry and load game into system. while you push the game down into the correct position, hold it down and move the game back and forth while it is being held down. turn the game on. sometimes, you might have to repeat a few times. enjoy.
