I have on several occasions applyed the parking brake on my truck and forgot it was on. Later when I would come back to my vehicle and would leave and the parking brake would still be on. Sometimes I notice that its on right after I start driving other times I may not notice until after driving several miles.

Now when I apply my parking brake the parking brake light doesn't come on. Why will the light not come on? How can I fix it so the light will come on? Also how do I fix my parking brake so my vehicle won't move when it is on?

I agree with gearbox1. Your parking brake light not working is just a matter of purchasing a $2.00 parking brake light switch. Go to your nearest Ford dealer parts department to pick one up. Replacing it is just a matter of one screw and a spade connector away. Regarding the parking brake adjustment, just make sure it's not adjusted too tight. Doing so will result in high fuel consumption, and premature wearing of your brake shoe linings.

Burned out bulb maybe? Fuse blown maybe? If you've been driving with the brake on, as you stated, then you've probably worn down the rear brake linings pretty bad and should check to see if they need replacement. Once the linings are good then it's just a matter of adjusting the park brake cable so that the truck doesn't go with the parking brake applied. But, if you have rear drum brakes, it will still move in reverse with the parking brake engaged. Best bet is to get into a habit of releasing the brake. Try putting a large note on the sun visor to remind yourself and help build the habit.

Turn the key on.. it should light up for a split second.. called a bulb check

If it does, make sure the rubber bumper piece on the parking brake is there to hit the parking brake light switch and to make sure the switch is even there still and that it works (sometimes you have to play with them to get working again)

On the other half, the truck will move even on a brand new truck but it will be harder to move than normal but it can be done as you are only applying half of the brakes technically....

You could try adjusting the rear brakes for a light drag and readjust your parking brake cable making sure it's actually free and working

Well, obviously, you have a blown fuse or a blown bulb or have a problem with the parking brake mechanism. If you cant diagnose this yourself I would suggest taking it to a reputable repair facility before you do serious damage to your rear brake shoes and drums.

Look under the dash ad see if there is a wire hanging by the e brake. here should be a spade connector on the e brake unit that connects the wire.
