It is very interesting that a culture that invented the Alphabet, was the first to spread trading between countries and that has seen, Roman, Greek, pharaons, french, turk occupations and crusaders who left behind the most ancient temples and ruins is viewed as a country with no history.

It's interesting that a tiny country of hardly 3 or 4 million people counts 27 different religions co-existing on just over10000 square metres. and where most people speak at least 2 languages is viewed as a country with no culture.

after reading the answers above, I guess Lebanon's best kept secret is that people don't know much about it.

Lebanon is set on the same place as the ancient Phoenician Civilization. The Phoenicians were seafarers. They explored and traded often through sea routes in the mediterranean. They established colonies that would later develope into the Carthagian Empire and influenced the world with their culture by spreading the use of the alphabet to areas such as Greece and Italy.

The Phoenicians were Canaanites, native people of the Canaan and they spoke a variety of Semetic language known as Phoenician. They established self-sufficient city-states that would often dominate each other for a period of time.

Phoenicia was conquered by Cyrus the Great of Persia and since then was ruled by foriegners (Greeks, Armenians, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Ottomans, and the French).

The ignorance displayed above absolutely astounds me !

When most of the forbears of what is now Europe were still primitive in their lifestyle , Lebanon had an advanced architecture , culture , written language , was a trading nation second to none ..

I guess most above learn their history from watching the Simpsons on TV!

all i kno about Lebanon, is that it's a small subdeveloped country, in which the average income per person doesnt surpass $5,000. Their culture and history is not widely known or popular.. so i dont think Lebanon has a best kept secret. - SOrryy
