You can ask for her hand in marriage, or just talk to him and tell him you want to ask her.

Well it depends on what kind of relationship you have with her father. If it's a casual one then you can sit him down, take him out for a few beers and tell him how much his daughter has changed and improved your life for the better. Tell him how she made you a better man and that you can't really see you carrying on your life without her in it. Then say that you would like to ask his permission for her hand in marriage. He has to know how much she means to you and the REASONS why you feel this way.

Otherwise you can always cut the pizzazz and get straight to the point. Hey, Mr. So and So...how would you feel if I were to ask your permission for your daughter's hand in marriage. That works too.

Tell him you want to sit down with him and have a talk. Then say that you would like to ask permission to have his daughters hand in marriage. Good luck.

Asking permission is only a courtesy these days so I would simply begin by saying that you love his daughter very much, can and will provide for her (not just monetarily, but in support and as a father one day), and that you would APPRECIATE his approval for asking for her hand in marriage. Don't put him in some kind of driver's seat, this is your decision and hers, and it ain't the twenties.

If you are friendly with him and have been around him a bit, it should be easy to just sit down alone with him and just say, "I truly love your daughter and I'd like to ask her to marry me and I would like to have your blessing on the matter." It really doesn't matter what he says these days, the tradition is old and arcane, but if he agrees, you've made a life long friend and shown proper respect to her Father.

Sit down w/ the father and tell him how you feel about her. Let him know that your feelings have become stronger and you are at a point where you want spend the rest of your days w/ his daughter, and ask him for her hand in marriage. Good luck and if she says yes, congratulations!

Its 21st century. You don't ask the dad any more, but the girl.
Anyhow, a line like "Mr. So-and-so I really love your daughter and would like to make her very very happy. I hope you would approve of me marrying her."
Yet, if you ask him "would you approve" what if he says "no, I don't". Won't u still marry her? That would make ur relationship with the dad awkward, so better don'T ask...
