I live in Idaho, you have to order one from the state for about $13. The paperwork to order one was in the packet of forms they sent home from the hospital, and it was also available online to print off and mail or fax in. I didn't actually order one from my son until I needed it for something legal which was him going to preschool this year. I'm guessing California is very similar and you'll be able to find the necessary form online.

I lived in California when I had my first child and I filled out all the paper work before leaving the hospital. They told me 2 weeks from then I would be contacted. About 10 days after I had my daughter, they called and I set up and appointment to sign and recieve the birth cetificate. I think I paid $40 dollars but I also got an extra copy for safe keeping. You should contact your hospital to see where they sent your information or the neasest birth certificate and passport office. Best of Luck

Well, I'm guessing that you have the certificate of birth from the hospital with the baby's foot prints on it right?? If not no worries, you should have your son's birth certificate by now, but you have to contact the Office of Vital Records for the county that you are in. Some places allow you to order the birth certificate by phone, however, you have to pay for it ($14.00 in the state of CA) so most places prefer that you go in and request it in person. So, thats what you need to do. If you need information on contacting th Office of Vital Records for your county, I'm sure your childs pediatrician or the hospital can provide you with that information!!
I hope this helps!!

I'm not sure about California but both of my babies were born in phoenix... They said it takes 3 to 6 weeks... certainly you should have had it by now. Call your office of vital stastics and find out if they can track it for you.. it's possible the hospital hasn't sent the correct information over to them yet...

You we're depending on which hospital, suppost to pick it up. Well I did. But, I suggest you go to the hospital and ask about it, because without the birth certificate your child can't start school.

All counties differ. Call your local county clerk's office, I think that's where they come from, if not, they can direct you in the right way. I lived in Georgia when my son was born and it took about 6 months to get his.
