They lost a lot with Briere and Drury leaving. They also lost Zubrius. And they traded away their best goalie. Plus, one of their defensive leaders is not playing because of his heart problems.
This club can still compete but they will not match the results of last year's team.
Truth be told, after Christmas last year the Sabres were not stellar. What carried them forward was their tremendous start.

The Rangers are barely over .500 and they're tearing it up? With the talent they have the Rangers should be around .750.

The Sabres are a team without veterans. They lost both of their captains and now they are pretty young. I just wish we would have kept Drury. Oh well. Things will gel eventually but it might take a year.

Drury, Briere, and they should have kept Zubrus. They also haven't adjusted well to the new trap and the piling up of players in front of the goalie to take away scoring opportunities which seems to have started during the second half of last season. Injuries haven't helped either. I've always hated bandwagon fans, but damn, basketball has been looking good.

They just arent getting the breaks they had last year. They have hit more posts these last few games then I have ever seen. Also, they need a few more games to "gel" I dont think Briere and Drury have too much to do with it. The key players are just not stepping up. Max, Vanek, Roy, Pominville these guys are the new leaders and need to step it up!

very young team pressing too much because nobody is taking the leadership role and nobody is scoring. look for a trade sooner than later for a couple veterans and hopefully they gel by the new year

they're missing Drury and Briere scoring. They became a 0.500 team and I think they will make the playoffs because they got Miller in the net, Lindy Ruff, and a good chemistry. They just need to play at their true level.

They need to play better defense!! I mean c'mon, how can Miller be expected to stop a 3-1 break? Where is the center and the other defenseman?
