Great question. Both of these bands were immediately labeled as the second coming of The Smiths upon their respective debut albums. The nod goes to Placebo. However, Suede had the better debut album. Unfortunately, they were never able to sustain their initial success. But damn, what an album that was with songs like Metal Mickey, The Drowners and Animal Nitrate. It flat out rocked. Give Placebo credit for keeping it going for a much longer time.

Gotta be Placebo, Suede are very samey, plus Brian Molko is a chameleon, not like Brett (sorry man)

Placebo... before Brian Molko became ugly (cut his hair) and started playing Depeche Mode-tinged music (ie: Sleeping with Ghosts, Meds).

=D

I love Brian, though. And Steph and Steve. All love! Besides, they're like the sexual orientation boy band (you know, each one's a different kind... the queer, the breeder, the one who goes between the two).

I like Suede, too... but they just never really did it for me.

Oh man... I used to REALLY LOVE Placebo!!! <3

Placebo all the way. They consistantly have great music that is always evolving and changing without straying too far from their sound.
