easy math and im having issues with it?

ok, i have to solve for x in the equation
-2|3x+7|+2>-4

Im really having problems and i can usually do these pretty good, can someone please walk me through this one, also the | is absolute value in case you have problems making this symbol out.

-2|3x+7|>-6
Divide -2 from both sides, results in a sign change.
|3x+7|<3
3x+7<3 and 3x+7>-3
3x<-4
x< -4/3

3x+7>-3
3x>-10
x> -10/3

So -10/3

First, what ever is in an absolute value sign is how far away the equation is from zero.

So, since both are positive, you can change the absolute value signs to ( )

The question now reads

-2(3x+7)+2>-4

Now, distribute the -2

-6x + -14 + 2 >-4

Add all common values

-6x + - 12 > -4

Now add 12 to both sides

-6x > 8

Now divide by -6 on both sides

-6x/-6 > 8/-6

x > -8/6

x = -8/6
