why do guys have to turn their head and cough during a check up?

i have no clue why and whats going on but i seen tv shows when they tell the guy to turn their heads and cough

1) When you cough, you abdominal muscles flex which increases the pressure inside the abdomen. That increase in abdominal pressure can make a hernia pop out, making it easier for doctors to detect. Though hernias usually present as a bulge, you could easily have a hernia and not know it.
2) To diagnose varicoceles, which are varicose veins of the testicles. With a good cough, the veins will protrude much like the veins in your neck do. Varicoceles are the most common cause of infertility in men.
3) So patients don't cough on us.

That's just a basic physical, untill you turn 18 or so then they have to check the prostate too...you can ask another question or search for Prostate Exam on Wiki.

Well the doctor have to grap our testes and we have to turn our head and cough. It checks for if we have any hernias.

Before they ask you to cough they can also use the exam to make sure you have two testicles. Or that both of them have dropped into place. One testicle usually hangs lower than the other so they can feel the scrotum to make sure everything is in the right place.
