i recently got my first paycheck from work and the total amount was around $480. subtracting the tax, it was like $400.69. i live in VA and i'm 15.

does the amount of tax sound about right? $70 seems like a bit much... i was looking on the net and i saw that my tax should only be at like 2%...

It would have helped if you had listed the individual deductions from your stub. There are a number of different items being withheld from your paycheck including Social Security, Medicare, Federal income tax and State income tax. The Social Security and Medicare will be nearly half of what was withheld, so not a lot was withheld for Federal and State income taxes.

I used to live in Va , its right . Sorry to tell you this but ..... theres a lot of people on welfare in that state . Mostly in the Norfolk and Porstmouth areas . Ever heard of section 8 , thats also what your money goes too . Not the roads , or the police or hospitals . But the lazy people that dont work and receive welfare . Get used to it . OR do what I did , move to Florida , they dont have State income tax .
