For those of us alive and interested in music from about 1987-1991, these were really the only mainstream bands that carried the torch of rock n' roll until the likes of Nirvana and Pearl Jam revolutionized the music scene. I mean "Home Sweet Home" that is a timeless classic. All other mainstream bands sucked during that time for the most part. Of course there was some of the best underground stuff in the world at the time, but not much radio/video music.

So I give a hearty salute to these bands and their under recognized contribution to the world, who kept me from having to listen to douchebags like Warrant, Winger, Whitesnake and Dokken during the dark ages of rock n' roll. What do you think?

You just named my favorite bands. Motley Crue (when Tommy Lee was the drummer) was unreal. Shout at The
Devil, my fave of all those years. There's a professor
called Bill Irwin (you can hook into him on myspace) who
actually gives a class on Metallica and it's similarities
to ancient philosophers. He's been interviewed on all
the major news shows. Really an interesting guy. He's written a couple of books on them and you should check
him out. I lived in Europe almost that whole time and
there were some fabulous bands that never made it
over here. It's still true today...England and Europe
have much better music coming out. Check out some
Sheffield DJ's on the UK myspace for a look at some
of them..lots of ambient electronic rock and awesome
drumming They're "re-iniventing" metal over there in
a really unique way..just as driving, but more forgiving
lyrics...no animal sacrifices on stage, etc. Give it a
look.

You should go all the way back and salute Alice Cooper, without whom there would be nothing of the aforementioned bands.
