No sleep is not cumulative. When you don't sleep enough on a regular basis it will make you tired but you cannot make up the hours you lost and feel perfect again. Think of it... you get too little ov sleep over one week , say you lose 8 hours of sleep, and on your next weekend you try to add 8 more hours? You'll just feel groggy from oversleeping. Just try to get more sleep on a regular basis and sleep in on the weekends to help you not feel so tired.

A sleep debt? kind of, yes. I think it depends on different factors. Like your age and your health....
When I was young, I could go days w/o sleep and I felt fine. I'm now approaching 50 and have difficulty sleeping everyday. When I lose so much sleep it hurts me a lot now and no... I don't seem to be able to get it back. Just have to move on....

Not all need the same amount of sleep per day.
If you are loosing sleep you need you will have physical signs of this each day.
No you can not make up for what sleep you didn't get in the past except the immediate past.

Your health will tell you what to do if you pay attention.

I don't usually try. I might sleep in an hour or so more, but if I sleep in too long to try and fix my schedule it just screws up my sleep schedule even worse.
