Unless you get into monsters with extra long arms, it is nothing more than a beam with one short arm and one long arm (like a 2x4) with a pivot (like a pipe) on a stand as tall as the long arm. The short arm has a lot of weight hung on it and the long arm has a hook shaped so the sling with the load on it will come off at the top.
From PBS shows (www.pbs.org) it turns out it works better if the weight hangs from the end instead of being bolted firmly and works better if it is on wheels and moves instead of being pinned in place (kind of like a pitcher changing his center of gravity as he pitches.)
