maybe "in" the right hand pocket, not "on." but the opening to the smaller pocket comes up and is outside the bigger pocket.

Yep, it's a watch pocket, meant to hold small pocket watches. Gentlemen carried pocket watches on chains and kept them in their vest's watch pocket, but men who wore jeans usually didn't wear a vest, and they labored (worked), so they made a small pocket for the watch, separate from the coins and other stuff a man would carry, so it didn't tear up the watch....

Some of them are big enough for a cell phone, some too small to carry a Chap-Stik....

It was created for men to put their pocket watch in, and the style just stuck, probably because people find the smaller pocket useful.

I have that too. I think it's just for looks, but maybe if you lose an earing back or something, you could just stick it in there instead of trying to find it in a huge pocket.

Basically every pair of jeans has that. It is called 5 pocket jeans. I guess it is just the style, i dont know, but it is useful for holding lip gloss!
