Please tell everyone you know to email, text,or make a phone call to boycott the NFL.

The Vikings mean business in 2007. But few knew they would take it this far.

The team has informed wide receiver Troy Williamson that he will be docked one game's pay for missing three practices as well as last Sunday's game against San Diego in order to attend his grandmother's funeral.
Williamson stands to lose $25,588.24 of his $435,000 base salary, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported.

"It's really kind of out of my realm," coach Brad Childress said, according to the Star-Tribune. "It's a business principle, organizationally. If you don't show up, how does that work? We talked about that today."

Williamson, who returned to the team Wednesday, said he did not regret his decision to spend the time with his family.

I think the NFL should step in and reverse fine!!
If they dont I think a boycott of the NFL is in order!!!

The rule was that if a player doesn't show up to practice or games without injury, then he will be fined. There is no loophole that allows you to take it off for a funeral. Although, he really had no choice but to go. He made the right decision.

Here's a few ideas If you 1.Want to be on the bandwagon of a consistent extremely strong team : New England Patriots 2.If you for some reason want to be with the underdogs : Atlanta Falcons (As they make the playoffs like every year yet have never won a superbowl ever) 3.If you are a Christian and want to back a team represented by such Baltimore Ravens (As Ray Lewis, Ray Rice, and others are known to be, Ray Lewis especially though) (I didn't say Jets/Tebow because... they won't even make him a starter he will probably be out of there next year) 4.If you want the one with the coolest looking merchandise : I don't know, that's your tastes pick the team w/ the best color scheme/name/logo in your opinion 5.If you want to be a total hipster and pick a LOSER team (super under dogs) : Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Oakland Raiders, Philidelphia Eagles, etc (Browns would be the most hipster-y **** there is, not only do they suck but their colors and logo blow) Aside from that here is a list of teams that seen so popular they transcend their area, they have fans all over the place : Packers, Steelers, Giants, Patriots, Saints You could also watch "A Football Life" and "E:60" on youtube and get to know who some players from some teams are are as human beings, and you can get behind the team who's guys you most relate to personally

Confusion here is was it a fine or was he docked pay. Different versions of story say different things.
The Difference?

If docked pay then money stays in Vikings pocket and business principle explanation makes sense.
If fine, then Vikings paid him and he "donated" the amount to a charity, so business principle doesn't make sense.

Most jobs give funeral leave, most without pay from what I know. So if docked makes perfect sense. If fine then it is just punitive and atrocious.

He did go, so he got the leave.

Oh, and NFL should do exactly what it is doing... STAY OUT of it, it is a team matter one way or the other.

I don't see the big deal.

The Vikings didn't fire or cut Willaimson because of going to the funeral. That would have been unreasonable.

They merely didn't pay him for not playing that week, which is what he is being paid to do.

I have every right to expect an employer to give me time off to attend a family members funeral and not have my job threatened. I should not have the right to expect to get paid when I am not at work. Same goes for Willaimson.

Isn't it a little awkward for you to ask fans some of who make less than $25,000 a year to feel sorry for some one that makes $25,588.24 for one game, would you boycott or even care that restaurants might deduct broken dishes from a worker that makes less than $7.00 an hour,or how about a bank teller that makes minimum wage that is sent home for the day because she or he was not dressed with expensive looking clothes

its just how the NFL works, Troy knew the consequences. It states clearly in the rules that you CAN get fined, I see no reason to boycott. I agree even though he shouldn't have been fined, he did, and the vikings broke no rules.

Your idea is stupid. He was absent from his job, and that is what playing for an NFL team is...their jobs, without permission. Out in the real world if you take a unapproved leave of absence from your job, you are not paid. When my mother passed away I took a week off from work. Company policy allowed 2 days for a funeral leave, the extra time I took I was not paid. Sounds like NFL teams have similar policies.

He will be fine. $435,000 a year is a hell of a lot more than the majority of us get. It's not like he's going to be homeless or something. And his contract indicated that he could be fined, so I don't see anything wrong with it.

A boycott? Are you serious?

Aren't there more important things in the world to get up in arms over besides some overpaid spoiled professional athlete not getting paid for one game?

Priorities people, priorities.

Better idea...don't pay anything related to NFL products. Just watch the games on TV for free. You win, they lose. Yet people pay to get more and more and more out of NFL stuff and die unhappily.
