They have their own agendas. Most news agencies (estimated 80%) are politically Democrat, and many contribute to Democrat campaigns. This is in the U.S., I don't know about England. There fore, the news we receive is heavily filtered and altered to form opinions that coincide with the opinions of the news agencies. Many people turn to the news to learn what their opinions should be, sadly. Every day we hear how many soldiers were killed in Iraq. Have we ever heard how many insurgents were killed? How many schools and hospitals have been built? How Baghdad has been secured? No, never. I'm not disclosing my views on the war here. I'm disclosing how the news has the power to influence people. You raise a very important question here, and I hope you continue to seek answers.

Every news outlet, be it print, TV or radio or wire service has some bias.
There is also bias all the way through the reporting chain, from both sides of politics, and these biases are because the newsmen have their own opinions, they have their own religious and political beliefs. Their ethnicity, culture plus personal experiences all affect how and what they report.
A journalist in the field -- say a wire service reporter in Iraq. The journalist wants to be as accurate as he can be, but his inbuilt biases effect how he looks at and reports a particular story.
There are restrictions on him, and what he can report, imposed upon him by the US military and if he does not comply, he is expelled.
After filing the story on the wire, it is sent to the regional centre which I believe would be Rome, where it is edited by a sub editor prior to it being sent around the world.
The story then lands on the desk of the newspaper's foreign editor who again, re-edits the story to fit to the newspapers editorial policy and to fit into the room on the page. Here again, personal bias plus editorial policy affects the story-line.
At any stage in the process, the story may be "spiked" and never progress further.

i'm going to agree that minorities are many times below represented or represented with ridiculous stereotypes. interior the early 90s a quite a few action picture, "The Hollywood Shuffle" and "worry of a Black Hat" and "i'm Gonna Get You Sucka" have been great parodies of ways Hollywood have been treating African American characters. (they are all quite properly worth revisiting) considering that then issues are transforming into extra helpful i think of...i do no longer watch plenty television yet, there are some helpful characters who're additionally minorities right here interior the U. S.. The Bernie Mack prepare case in point, or Sisters or 0.5 a dozen different exhibits with quite often African American casts who're doing ordinary issues (working, going to college, taking care of their childrens) There are additionally exhibits that use helpful Latino characters - the George Lopez prepare case in point. Asians are below-represented - i became no longer elementary pressed to come back up with an prepare based around Asian characters...in step with probability one is coming quickly. we are able to surely do extra helpful of direction. it incredibly is as much as the common public to maintain looking, talking approximately and annoying equivalent therapy for minorities.
