I really have to die. And so do you. Sorry. Take an anatomy course.

Scientifically speaking, there really is no direct evidence that I WILL die.

I mean, sure... there's about a hundred billion pieces of circumstantial evidence that I am doomed to be worm food, in that pretty much everyone who was once alive seems to be dead right about now. But any scientist will tell you that a hundred billion positive tests of a theory are meaningless if you have one good negative test.

Nor is it even necessarily completely illogical to suspect that I might be around for a long, long time. Scientists can already engineer some creatures with twice the normal lifespan and vigorous health all throughout it. They are looking for an analogous biochemical in humans (some think they have already found it and are trying to produce it in pill form). They may find what they're looking for tomorrow. Or maybe something even better.

But you never REALLY know until it happens, do you?

Most cultures have stories of people with ridiculous lifespans - maybe those have a basis in fact. Maybe aliens will land and give us the cure for age. Maybe science will develop life extentions faster than the time they give can pass. Maybe the horse will learn to sing, so to speak.

I'll tell you one thing: if I ever die, it will be with a look of surprise on my face. Peace.

Yes.

And even if we are tricked into believing, the belief does not change the fact (just as children believing in Santa Claus does not change the fact that adults bought them their toys).

old dog:
If you are a christian, then you know that you must die and be reborn before you can enter the kingdom of heaven (hence the ritual of baptism) - so even you must admit that everyone must die, even those who believe in eternal life.

No you don't have to die you can live forever but it is a matter of faith. The Christ Jesus is the only salvation you have to live for ever. Right now we have a body, and it will give up the ghost one day. What you do in the here and now determines your eternity in the here after.
So no ... you don't really have to die, but that is all up to you and your decisions.

I think the answer is obvious, don't you? Quite frankly, I don't believe there has been that much trickery in that regard over the entire course of human history. Oh, there might have been a few people who died but I must say they had to be pretty gullible.

Do you think people are made of stainless steel? Every kind of flesh decays when old enough. And if you don't die from old age or from having body parts drop off, there's always the flu, pneumonia, suicide, homicide and accidents.
