I don't follow politics - just want to make that known. Ignoring the FACT that the largest "terrorist" threat is often unknown (remember a guy named the Unibomber.....), targeting any one segment of a population for surveilance is just plain dumb. What if, in that instance, the Muslim community is not creating a problem, but 3 blocks away some CalTech refugees are building a small nuke, but all the attention is on the Muslim's because of their background? A broader watch on possible terrorist threats is called for. But at some point watching becomes scrutiny. And that overrides freedom. But in this age, everyone should be watched....not just one group. What would have the public response have been if such a plan involving monitoring all the African Americans in a given area (before 9/11) was to be put in place?
Who knows the answer.........

Sure why not after all they are moving closer to being declared a State enemy
Why not map the Jewish homes as well they are the most likely targets of such aggresion
Maybe we could put all the muslims into camps and then we would know where they all are
Then we could map out black nieghborhoods as they commit more violent crimes and then we could map out the liberal voteing nieghborhoods after all they are the most likely to uestion government policy which only helps the terrorists
After that we could map out the homes of people who only half heartedly support Bush or the war in Iraq or the Republican party -
Hell lets put them all in camps and all those bums on the streets as well - can't find work we will find it for you
The only ones that should be allowed to wander the streets are those who work for the military or supporting infrastucture to it - The rest of the nation is just plain dangerous
It seems ok one step here one step there ----
Just like it seemed ok to the Germans -
Only their State enemy list was a little different it was sold in the same manner
The liberals were first on Hitler's list -- I am sure that from the whipped up frenzy of the "right" that American liberals are on Bush's list as well
Then it was the communist for Hitler - Bush too
Then Jehovah's witness's - Not on Bush's list - I don't think
Then there were the Jews - Bush's is the Muslim
Sure that guy who lived next to you went to work every day and so on is now a threat - a big one -
So lets just declare them all the State's enemy and hope you and I don't turn out to be # 2 on the "list"

Justified would include following illegal immigrant violations on a regular basis and not looking the other way. Looking into MS-13. Gangs. Justified. To racially profile Muslim's at this point I fear is out of their range. Only if they have special forces details? Ones who stick to the rules. In my experience, LAPD is often cold co*cked bunch of rebels themselves. Under proper guidance, yes, I would then agree any way to look into national threats on our soil is justified.

Does anyone remember National Lampoon magazine? Not sure if they publish it anymore. They did a bunch of funny stuff and in one issue they did that for the entire country and it was a hoot.
Why not map everyone, that way it wouldn't hurt anybodies feelings and give the ACLU a foot in the door to start another lawsuit? I've heard that the ACLU is backed by the communist does anyone know? Seems they mainly hamper the main stream flow of the country.. It's all nutty.
if you can find that issue of national lampoon get it because it was insane and you would laugh all night. Take care.

Actually I think it's pretty foolish. Terrorists aren't bound to live in Muslim neighborhoods, and could easily just rent an apartment in the Byzantine Latino Quarter or Compton- away from the "surveillance zone", and probably will now that it's hit the papers. What really bothers me about the article, is that it's an admission that the LAPD doesn't already know about the compositions of the neighborhoods they patrol. What the heck have these guys been doing for the last 30 years, that they don't already know where the established Muslim communities are?

Personally, I think this falls under racial profiling. They are assuming that most terrorists have been Muslims, therefore most Muslims must be terrorists. This is the same reason that blacks get pulled over much more often than whites.
It is my opinion that this is wrong. We should be looking for potential threats, dangerous behavior, not potential people.

Yes. The LAPD idea is actually pure softball. It's not survailance. The idea is to look for enclaves that are heavily muslim and initiate 'outreach' programs to keep dialogue open. Thus, for instance, if hate crimes start taking place in those neighborhoods, the inhabitants will hopefuly feel confident in reporting them, and, similarly, if a wild-eyed mullah starts recruiting the local kids for martyrdom, they'll hopefully turn him in, too. Way sinister, huh?
When muslims are being 'relocated' like the Japanese in WWII, I'll believe they /may/ have something to complain about.

I live within about ten miles of a Muslim compound. It is one of only two, in this state...that is on the FBI's terrorist watch list.
They have the leader on tape, at training camps for terrorist....you better believe I want them mapped out.
Dizz, they...you..whomever, can come to my Christian Church anytime...we do not have guard towers...barbwire fences or surveillance cameras in every corner....we, unlike them...have nothing to hide.
And you guys can beat the Timothy McVeigh horse all you want...one compared to thousands...yea, that is a fair comparison.

Good move to reduce terrorism
But what about mapping ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION and GANG areas? Put police and ICE there
Terrorism has not killed anyone in LA (i think) whereas gangs and heavy hispanic immigration areas commit tons of crime such as car thefts, vandalism, and more serious crime , every single DAY

ghetto produces violence. so, your government should add them whole society. in Turkey, Although, Atatürk closed down some ghetto religious orders, now , they are free because of democratization. but, some of them are dangerous that confused people's mind and caused violence. therefore, I published "takva" movie in order to explain some points
