Alfred, Lord Tennyson

Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd ?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Some one had blunder's:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & die,
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.

I believe Tennyson Asked this question to demonstrate the fearlessness of the men charging into a futile and disasterous mission in which they faced almost certain death. In fact, out of the 673 calvarymen involved over 200 were killed.

Were they worried? No, they were to attack without worrying about if they were right or wrong, whether they would live or die. Just do it.
