It would depend on the taxidermist. If they can get the styrofoam inside part to work the hide around without having to build it from scratch, they might, but the cost of doing the job would be over $90. Doing a stuffed mount, even a small one, takes a lot of time plus they have to pay for tanning of the skin.

Our local museum had a bunch of stuffed puppies and dogs, spread around their "Old World Wisconsin" streets display. The faces all looked sort of weird, so it must not be easy getting a good expression on a domestic animal's face.

Obviosuly it would be ideal if everyone spayed and neutered their animals and this never had to be done, but I think it's better to abort them than to raise them improperly and surrender to a shelter. If someone is asking about a spay/abort procedure, they know they can not provide proper puppy care (like shots, wormings, and the massive amount of time it takes to raise puppies until new homes can be found), or their dog is not physically mature enough to have puppies, has medical problems, or was bred by a much larger male, which puts their life in jeopardy. Many of these unwanted puppies will be used as 'bait' dog in fighting operations, wind up in research facilities (dog fighters and research companies target cheap or 'free-to-good home dogs and cats), be passed from home to home or euthanized, especially mixed breed dogs (almost all oops litters are mutts). Also, shelters are overflowing with unwanted animals already, cute puppies take homes away from really wonderful adult animals who were surrendered and will then be euthanized. All our local shelters spay/abort all pregnant animals that come in. They also euthanize immediately puppies surrendered without mom who are too young to adopt out, they take up a lot of the shelter's scarce resources.

Most taxidermists will not stuff pets...and i doubt very much they will stuff a puppy or kitten becasue they dont know how it died and they dont want to have to deal with PETA...Taxidermists know how all the animals in their shop died...most have tags that hunters or trappers have purchased from fish and game ....they dont like to do pets becasue the animal will not look like ur pet when they are done...they cant capture ur animals personality

Yeah, they stuff just about anything. I know of some people who have it done for their pets. I think it is freaky, morbid and wrong. But the two taxidermists that I know will only do wildgame.

Yes. You can have apet taxidemied <-- got to love the spelling.
There is also freeze drying now that is becoming very popular.
Ben Stien has his beloved pointer stuffed.
I don't know if it would be the way that I would go. But mourning is an individual process... so whatever makes someone feel better is ok with me.

They stuff domestic animals as well. Basically, if you have the money, they'll stuff it!

As long as it isn't something sick you do i.e. slaughtering pets and keeping them as trophies.
