I need serious answers here for my own peace of mind. I come up with several different answers, but still...?

Could you please give me a justification, brief if you want, but preferably detailed, of the ontological necessity of modern man's existential dilemma?

Ontology is a study of conceptions of reality and the nature of being. In philosophy, ontology is the study of being or existence and forms the basic subject matter of metaphysics. Theology is another branch of ontology.
