Denatured alcohol works OK, but I had rather use denatured alcohol. It makes the black 'magic marker' completely break down. If the leather is colored with some type of dye, be careful, denatured alcohol may take the dye out too. You can buy this stuff at any Lowe's or Home Depot store or any paint store and most hardware stores. I sprayed a little on a metal surface to clean the grime off it and the mark started running down the metal is how I found out about it - total accident, lol. You will see the colors that make up the marker come off that way. I thought it was black made from, well, black. Turns out that the yellow was the last color to leave it.

Permanent marker is by its very nature a dye which is permanent.
Anything that is guaranteed to remove it will also damage the finish and/or pigment on the leather. This also applies to household remedies and solvents.

Magic eraser is also likely to damage the finish before removing the marks.

The area will need to be recoloured with a pigment that has been mixed to match so this is best left to a technician to resolve.

Do not be tempted by DIY kits where you mix your own colour it is the most difficult part of leather work and sometimes takes technicians years to perfect so cannot be done yourself.

Before trying harsh remedies such as nail polish remover. I suggest trying spray and wash. Used it to remove permanent marker from tile grout once. Sure impressed me. Had tried everything and nothing worked but Spray and Wash pulled the ink out of the grout.

Rubbing alcohol.

I'm not sure if this would work on leather, but it has worked on white boards I have around work. You take the white board pens (AKA Dry Erase board pens) and mark over the writing, then wipe off.

Some coworkers of mine didn't pay attention to what pen they were using before they wrote, and this worked GREAT to get if off the white board. It might work on leather, never tried it.

try a natural product made of citrus oils...as with any cleaner, you should test on a small area that is not so visible.
