is the free stuff on itunes...?

is the free stuff on itunes REALLY free! if i were to set up an itunes account they wouldnt charge me for "free" stuff later in my credit card? would they?

It's free. I've downloaded free podcasts, music, videos, etc. in the past, never a hidden charge.
