That you could do with a degree in either philosophy or literature? I really enjoy reading old and new literature, and plan to be a writer; but what other jobs could you aquire with such a degree?

Virtually any job is open to you, except those requiring a science degree. One show recently described a writer as an actor without a job - it can be hard to make money at it but good luck. I'd suggest you stick to media type jobs if you are really serious about writing for money, it's mainly about contacts, not being good.

Many accounting, law firms take on good quality graduates, as do retail, admin, local and central government.

if you have a particular other interest, try and take a course in this while you study.

Also contact professional bodies and ask for advice on course, or summer/ holiday work.

I have a philosophy degree and have worked in accounting, telecomms design, law, software, consulting etc. If you have a flexible mind, the degree simply shows you have that, then you apply it to the work you do.
