Because it's just screaming. Babies born don't make actual tears, they just make the only noise they know how, which is screaming. They are uncomfortable and cold and they don't know what is going on, so they are a little scared and they scream.

Laughter is a learned behavior.

hmm lets see, we go from a nice warm comfy enviroment that is all we have ever known into a canal that is far too small for us to comfortably fit thru, then we are blinded by bright lights and ppl wearing surgical masks and these ppl slap us on the butt (to make us cry i'm guessing) then they cut off the only source of nutrition we have had for our whole 9 month exsitence, stick a stucker in our mouths and nose to get the junk out and we are left cold and wet and wondering what the hell just happened? yea i don't see where we would laugh at any of that.

delivery is a painful experiance. basically think of all the bones get squished up and moved around at an identical time as going via the birthing canal. Plus while born toddler has come from a heat darkish place via the canal to a bright chilly place. additionally toddler hasn't found out a thank you to grin no longer to point snigger yet. it relatively is something we as mothers and fathers coach our little ones.

being born isn't prolly the most comfortable thing in the world. It's a big enviromental change. Going from warm and comfy place to cold and dry place sucks.

Because that is how babies communicate. They don't laugh until they are 2-3 months old.

That is an interesting question. Maybe because it helps us release energy that we have been storing up for 9 months with that first breath of air. ??? I wonder if there is a medical explanation!

babies cry becoz the environment is cold( the womb is warm)and its their first breath of air. It is the first time they are breathing on their own. The whole birthing is trauma for the child.

there is one very important reason why we cry at birth, we take in a huge breath to inflate our lungs in order to take our 1st breath. we need to expand our lungs and to get rid of any amniotic fluid still in our lungs. that is why we cry , its the big breaths needed to expand and contract our lungs. if we just smiled we would look cute but blue. not a good look. that is why you see midwifes stimulating babies to make them have their 1st breath. remember its the 1st time we have had to use our lungs to survive.

The first instinct is to breathe, it takes more muscles to laugh than to breath, so we take the usual option.... Why is it that the first thing we notice is our child's smile?
