Alot as to do with the type of oil used and the driving conditions. For example severe conditions are usually sided with stop and go driving where as ideal driving conditions are freeway driving. Remember to not skimp on the oil filter as the this cleans the oil. Oil additives are good and useful. Most engine wear occurs when you start the vehicle and oil takes a second before it lubricates the engine. If a car sits and is not driven much then date comes in affect if it driven on a regular basis then mileage is the determining factor.

Miles for sure.. If the car is not being drove very much or if you drive everyday to work and back and work is 10 miles away then its gonna take a lot of days til you need a oil change. But if you go on a road trip and your putting 300 miles each way on your car your obviously gonna be doing a oil change sooner. Just pretty much common sense.

which ever comes first if your car just sits and is not driven the average mileage the oil will break down. I don't know what kind of car you drive but I sale Toyota's. a new Toyota requires every 5k miles. for the average driver of 12- 15k miles that would be about 3 times a year or every 4 months if you don't drive 12-15k miles then every 4 months would be good.

Yes, go by which ever comes first.
So oil change intervals of 3 months/3000 miles means change at which ever comes first.
So if you only drive 1500 miles every 3 months. Change the oil because it's been 3 months.
If you drive 3000 miles in 1 month. Change the oil because it's been 3000 miles since your last oil change.

i usually go by mileage unless the car is sitting for an extended period example if i only drove 1000 miles for a year i would still change the oil because eventually it will break down

I go by mileage. However, you should get your oil changed at least every 6 months whether or not you have driven 3,000 miles
