The grill is about two years old and has been working well until just recently. Gas is clearly coming out the vent in the regulator, which obviously prevents me from lighting the grill. Can I just replace the vent or is there an easy-but-not-obvious-to-me solution?

Do you mean the vent on the regulator? If so, it's shot. Get a new regulator, they are sold at hardware stores and home improvment stores. They don't cost much.

Did you just get a new can of gas? I got one from Home Depot a while back, hooked it up, and it spewed gas out of the attachment at the can. I had bought two cans (5-gallon) and looked at the connection on both of them. The one I had hooked up (the one that leaked) didn't have the rubber washer in it to seal the connection. So, I took it back to Home Depot and exchanged it for another one.
