Making known a secret you were entrusted with.

I do not think that I can trust such a person again...I will always be weary of what I say to this person, whether male or female.

This is a really relevant question. I have a cousin who couldn't hold a secret from here to the end of her own nose. All you have to do to make sure she tells everything she knows (and embellishes what she doesn't know) is say, "...this needs to stay between us." and it's off to the races! I realized this over time, as a result I don't tell her anything of any consequence. Do I trust her? I trust that she will always behave in this manner (which isn't really the same thing, is it?), but at this point if she was to spill something that is potentially damaging to me it would be my fault because I know how she is, and I shouldn't have mentioned it. (Insanity is doing something the same way everytime but expecting a different outcome). To be clear, the answer to whether trust can be re-established: yes, but under a highly specific set of circumstances. But in the case I described for you, no, it cannot (because I don't think she fully realizes it when she does it).

Unfortunately, it takes a long time to build trust and only a split second to destroy it. Once it is destroyed, it is even harder to regain. it isn't impossible if this was something that has only happened once. However, if it is something that repeats itself it will be even harder.

If this was just a slip of the tongue then talk to this person and sincerely apologize and ask them what you can do to make things right again. Then, follow through.

Hopefully, this secret was not something malicious or personally damaging in any way to this person and you can regain their trust over time if you are sincere with them and keep your promise.

I wish you all the best!

You just need to show them that you are trustworthy. And it's going to take a lot of time.
