one more thing..no bells or sounds came on to call attention to the light, it just popped on..could this be an indication to service engine soon, since it just turned over to 35000 miles..my old pontiac always did that at each 35000 miles.???

Based on your description of the symbol, I would be making a wild guess.
Here is a free down-loadable owners manual, courtesy of Fords website.

The symbols are on pages 10-14

You should be able to pick out the symbol that you're trying to describe,
The digital manual is in pdf format so you can save it to your computer for future reference.

I hope this helps.

That is your check engine light. (should be yellow.) You have to take it and have it scanned for a code that will give the mechanic an general idea of the problem. You should do this ASAP as it could damage your engine if ignored.

My wife had a similar experience. However, she said it was her check "box" light had come on. It is not a muffler or a box. It is supposed to be an engine. Check engine. Could be many many many things. Take your car to a reputable repair shop to be diagnosed.
