I searched and read some questions on this subject but it wasn't exactly what I wanted to know. Should I use pre-shave? I saw it on a video :P. If so where can I buy it. And aftershave, I hear alcohal base isnt good. Shave up or down?

I find that using a face-scrub first really softens the hairs for a smooth shave.

Shave in the direction of the hairs.

You can use shave cream, but consider trying a non-lathering shave gel. You rub a thin layer on the skin then scrape it off with the razor. These gel's usually have moisturizer which prevents razor burn and you don't need aftershave. (But it smells good).

The gel's also come in a plastic squeeze tube which I think recycles a bit better and is not pressurized.

Yes pre shave solutions are available at super markets or chemists,Shaving oil is another idea but can sting a little ,I find that if you use hot water then apply baby oil then the shave cream it is more comfortable and smoother.I don`t use after shave as if nicks or cuts around then alcohol based aftershave will sting beyond belief, Shave up for the close shave only if your skin is tough enough, but shave with the way the hair grows if skin soft etc

Depends on the "toughness" of your beard... I've got a REALLY light beard - so I've gotten by my whole life with just cold tap water & a cheap-razor.

If you've got a heavier beard - you might need to apply a good shaving cream / lotion to hold the moisture against your face as you shave in order to prevent razor burn & to get the closest shave possible.

Since I've got a really light beard - I always shave AGAINST the grain of my beard-growth. Other fellas shave a few strokes WITH the grain... and follow up with a few strokes against the grain. It's going to vary from fella to fella & what they're comfortable with & where on your face you're shaving.

(You'll discover that the direction of your hair will vary from place to place)

I've *never* used an after-shave in my whole life... so, sorry - don't know anything about those products.

NEVER use alcohol-based aftershaves. They not only sting, but they dry up your skin. Use a creamy aftershave instead.
