someone went to me you are a complete goon yesterday and i dont know what it means. i know its an insult and on the lines of something like being stupid but what is the definition of a goon exactly

A stupid, clumsy person. An oaf or a gawk.

[Probably ultimately short for gooney, simpleton.]

British POWs(Prisoners of war) referred to their guards as 'GOONS'. The goons was also the name of a very famous british Radio program during the 1950's starring Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers and Harry Seacombe (and in the very early days Michael Bentine)

In hockey it's a bully or tough guy out on the ice to protect the star goal scorer on the team and gets into fights to protect the star. Not very talented, just can throw the haymakers.

1. thug: a professional gangster whose work is beating up or terrorizing people (informal)
2. clumsy person: somebody regarded as clumsy or uncouth (informal insult)
