As much as I am against the act of Torture, I feel it is ignorant to assume that most if not all countries take part in this in some form or another. As terrible and inhumane as it is, it remains a very effective way of pulling information from someone who has it and is unwilling to give it up. While it has recently come out that these techniques are used, I think we can all agree that using torture as a tool to find information is not a "new low" for the United States or many other countries.
Im not sure how I feel about it because even though I am against it my feelings dont really matter. These acts will continue regardless.
It lacks honor, it lacks respect, it lacks a general understanding of the rights of man yet it will undoubtedly continue.

" Fighting a hidden enemy is not as easy as you think"
very true, but a war won't find them either, mainly the CIA was probably working, and A LOT, on the subject but after the 9/11 bombings politics decided to "take actions" and initiated a war (imagine what the american inteligence agency could do with the current war on iraq budget, and also the better results it would bring)
had Bush taken a better way (which didn't involve a war) he would have turned its attention to the domestic economic problems and also treating the other countries as equal and respecting UN resolutions (no its not necessary to pump money in africa for dictators to buy summer houses in miami either). terrorists, i mean, serious, organised terrorists (Al Qaeda for instance) as radical as they can be, don't pop up for nothing. my opinion though im against an terror, war, anything that may come up

Those torture/interrigation techniques have been around and used for years. This is nothing new, it is just now getting publicity in the modern era. It is wrong? Yes. I can't agree with the conclusion that if we do it, others will do it to our troops. What idiotic line of reasoning is that? Liberals and being naive ... what a fun world we live in.

The United States military are not the only troops involved, why blame it all on the americans? If your not there to witness it, you cant say without a doubt its all the americans doing. You cant trust the govt of any country, do you really think they tell you everything or that they would admit to being a part of any "TORTURE" methods being used??

Yeah, Waterboarding isnt technically torture.
But torture isnt a new thing for the US. Its not just
a 'Bush' thing as some of the other posters are saying.
The CIA has tortured people for a good while now, decades.
Its part of their job to get information.
Does anyone else have a better idea of finding out stuff?

Maybe you'd like a job as an interrogator for the military? I'm sure your clever tactic of "asking nicely" will gain us volumes of useful intelligence!
People who strap bombs to their chest don't have rational thought patterns to begin with. What may seem extreme to most of us, is the cost of doing business for some. Remember, under Saddam's rule, torture was used as common punishment for everyday crimes. If we step in, and are forced to use extreme measures in limited cases, so be it.
And thumbs up to all the commentors who think trading one bad guy's comfort or even life, to save hundreds more innocent lives is a fair trade.

Freedoms / freedom of choice allows some to remain ignorant towards others freedom of rights.
The phrase... "what you sow, so shall you reap" comes to mind with regards to our leaders & the fantasy world they live in by creating & altering the definition on "Torture" to justify their means to an end. We're only as good as what we do, than what we say & this Administration of Pres. Bush has an ignorance all to themselves.

We should stand behind most of what our US government does. The one thing people need is more faith. Yes, I agree the Bush Administration is a total flop in the war in Iraq, but they are doing the best they can. Fighting a hidden enemy is not as easy as you think, and if you think the American military and government are turning a blind eye over our national problems, you are wrong.
We should torture. Of course we should. Do you consider Muslim fanatics that kill hundreds of innocent people by strapping bombs to their @sses human beings? No, they are not, and therfore should not be treated humanely. The United States is as honorable as it was when it was founded nearly 300 years ago. I am very proud of this country.
We shouldnt question torturing. We should by any means extract the information we need to save one more life in the Middle East and especially here at home.

Oh. I thought you were asking about torture. I was wondering who was doing it so I could tell them to keep it up.
Our enemies would be happy to blow you to pieces in your favorite pizza parlor or mall. If a little waterboarding will help prevent that I'm all for it.
This is not never-never land. It is the real world, with real bad people. I am all for killing them. I'd rather not torture except as a last resort, but if we can avoid having innocent people killed and it takes torture to do that I say go for it.
And if you think this is a new low you haven't read much history.
