I attended a small, quiet preschool.
My elementary school years were spent in the best school in the area; several amazing playgrounds, great teaching supplies, and state-of-the-art everything.
My middle school was also pretty good; several labs, plenty of space, etc.
After middle school, I attended a high school on the same campus. And though it's not amazingly great, it's pretty decent--best music program in the state, and a lot of highly intelligent students.

However, I hear people talk about the horrible schools they've heard about. But, I don't know anyone that's ever gone to a "bad" school. Maybe it's because I'm surrounded by only "priveledged" people.

But I'm wondering: Are there really many "bad" schools in the U.S.?

I'm not back. Because of the question limit on my account, I didn't get to ask all of my questions last night. I'm doing so now.

Yes there are bad public schools in the US. Try going to Yates, Sharptown, Chavez, Davis, Milby and Jones in HISD. Some of the worst schools in the state and probably in the nation.

I grew up attending Pasadena Independent Schools which aren't much better.

The type of school you go to depends on how much dough youve got. City schools are funded by the cities inhabitants - if their rich, they pay more in taxes, and the city has more money to make a nice school. If there poor the opposite is true.

So yes, there are a lot of shitty schools in the country, because not everyone has lots of dough. In a lot of places, maybe in most, school is more about wasting time than actually learning anything. The school i went to sucked pretty bad - most of the kids were learning stuff you probably learned in the 5th grade (i know i did).

I had a freind who was learning how to do long division as a sophmore. Not because hes dumb, or because he gets bad grades, but simply because there was no more room in the honors and pre honors classes, because those were all full of kids like me who had parents who could pull strings... So imagine what happens to those kids when they go out into the real world. My friend, hes in he military now. He'll come home and work some minimum wage job until he dies, and his kids will end up in the same shitty school system... there are many bad schools in the us.

I grew up in Chicago and went into the Public Education system.

My elementary school had dated books, an average of five years in age. There were no labs and when I got out of elementary school I could not write and had a hard time reading. Teachers were basically nannies and us, being poorer low class children, really do not have a future anyways.

There are no Junior Highs in the CPS.

My High school was a Catholic High school. The education here was slightly better, but still nothing great. Materials were dated as well, but not to the extent of a CPS school. My high school was mixed income Upper middle class, Lower Middle class, and poor. Still even in high school, I never had to write a paper and only read one book, The Jungle, for sociology class. Though my education in Literature and basic English skills was poor, my Mathematics education was average. As a result I scored a 21 on the ACT 18 in the English sections, really high in the sciences section and moderately in the math section.

Then I went to Purdue University in West Lafayette Indiana, and I failed out in a year and was in 20,000 dollars of debt.

YES, schools are that bad. If you do not have money, then you have to EDUCATE YOURSELF. And I did educated myself I am happy to say.

A lot of the schools in the states with the lowest H.S. graduation rate and test scores are that way because they are underfunded. I grew up in South Carolina, one of the worst in the nation, and personally experienced lack of funding as a major restraint in what I could learn. Until my senior year (06-07) we were still running our 20-30 computers on Windows 2000. We had no labs and not much of anything else. I witnessed my instructors having to pay out-of-pocket for supplies. I know a lot of 'bad schools' are that way because of the students, but a lot of public schools are that way because of money.

I know your situation as well. I lived near a 'good school' and I had to see all the things they had and we didn't, but the kids who went there didn't know any different.

I hope that kinda helped!

I never been to preschool and so I attended straight to Elementary school. I've had a lot of good memories from Elementary to middle school. High School was fun but at the same time it was depressing for me.

Me and my family moved a lot times. During 5th grade, we moved to San Leandro. It was a city near Stockton I think, I can't remember. But I attended two elementary schools. 6th grade I attended two middle schools. The middle school in San Leandro and then we moved back to my hometown and I attended middle school there. After 8th grade, we moved again. We moved to San Marcos. It's a city that's part of the San Diego county. Attended there until junior year, we moved again. Moved to Fernley, which is a very small town and it's like out of no where. It's located in Nevada. Fernley High School really sucks and it's so small that I can get to my class in no time. Moved again out of Fernley and back again to my hometown. I finally get to attend my hometown's high school and it was better than Fernley High. MOVED again for the last time. We moved back to San Marcos where I finished my high school days from there on. So I've been in three high schools.

Out of all the schools I've attended, two of them were bad and the teachers suck. Fernley High and Bancroft Middle school.

I've been to too many preschools to remember. I loved elementary school because it was so fun. It wasn't a "bad" school. Now I'm in 8th grade, and I go a school kind of like a magnet school. It's tough there. I'll probably be staying there till I'm a senior in high school.

There are a lot of "bad" schools, at least in Rochester, NY. There are GOOD schools too...it's all what you make of it.
I went to a parochial nursery school.
Public inner city school for kindergarten through 2nd grade.
Private Christian suburban school 3rd-8th grade
And public inner city high school.

I went to Montessori School for Pre-K and Kindergarten which was great.
A small elementary school that was half-way decent
A medium sized middle school that was ok
A small high school that was terrible and underfunded.
