Aren't they the same thing? or is it that sketching is a quick draw or doodle, and drawing is an artwork thats taken a lot of time and effort? Crap, I think I answered my own question, but I wanna hear what others say.

A sketch is a preparatory drawing. It can evolve into a completed drawing, or just be a preparation for another work in a different medium---like a compositional sketch, or a study for an oil painting.

So you did answer your own question. I think you have it down.

Sketching is for like quick pictures in a notebook, that you re-draw on better paper later if you like them and turn them into like nice artwork. Drawing is more like just when you have free time you sit down with a blank piece of paper and draw more detailed things and color them in. Real artists mostly do sketches, and like an average person who wants to "sketch" would do a drawing thinking they were like amazing drawers. Sketches are later touched up in the notebook to show the shading of the actual scene.

There really isn't that much when you think about it. Sketching is sort of a rough draft, using quick motions, not really caring about details and such, while drawing is the general idea of using a pencil and paper. Drawing's like a general term, if a friend asked you what you were doing, you'd most likely say "drawing", even if you were sketching.

You could say they are the same thing. Both usually involve a pencil. Drawing, however, is more often used to make a more descriptive, in depth picture, with more detail and meticulous detail. Sketching is often fast and messy-you use it when the need arises for you to make a quick description of something to someone.

Sketching is a quick thought. Drawing is taking the time to add light, shadows, real perspective and value.

Sometimes they do end up being the same thing, really, but yes, you did answer your own question. Good job!

Oh, and a sketch usually is with only one pen (of one color).
