if it is pet odors, i would use Nature's Miracle. Just dab it on lightly where the smells are.
Other smell types? try Febreze.
If it smells like mold, there may not be any way to fix that.

Call your local carpet cleaner company, or if you have a carpet cleaner with a fabric attachment, then spray some soap water into the sofa and suck it out a couple of times and go back over it with clean water and suck it out, put a fan on it so it will dry faster. Put some TSP in the soap water, its good stuff but won't hurt you.

bung the cover in the wash if it is removeable, if not then use something like shake and vac- yes they still do it!, if its a smokey smell then baking powder and a good layer of febreeze will do it. if its the actualy chair that smells not the covers, then you might want to give it a good airing by taking off the covers ( if removeable) and spray it with oust

Wipe area with wet rag,then spray a mix of water and vinegar on it.Let dry with a fan.Spray and dry again.The smell will leave with the mix...
