Sounds like the "dump" here is this question.
When is it the Democrats jobs to invent alternative fuel sources as a first priority, anyway?
Look, big oil companies are a major contibutor to the GOP. They practically write their platforms. Oil is the first reason we ever messed around with the middle east.

Some conclusions are just plain ridiculous - we went to war for oil, as an excellent example.
If oil was the primary goal, consider - we would have simply crushed the OPEC nations in '74 when their embargo crippled our economy, or perhaps we should have just kept Kuwait after we drove the Iraqis out.
Fact is, the Arab countries are filthy rich because we pay them dearly for their resource.
I am not naive - I know oil is important - very important - and I suspect that at least part of the reason that we drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait was to prevent Iraq from controlling over 20% of the world's supply. What I don't understand is why the democrats think that this is a bad motive - especially since they don't have any alternatives what so ever.

My car gets 35 mpg.
the electric bill for my house is under $40/month.
I walk to the post office, library, grocery store, bank, and beach.
Oregon is agressively pushing alternative energy with wind and wave farms and a mandate on %age of renewable energy utilities must sell.
it is also joining theCalifornia law suit against the EPA over auto emission regulations.
What are the republicans doing besides burying their heads in the sand in total denial?

No it makes me sure that come 08 we must keep the libs out one more time and make sure which ever excuse for a conservative we elect must be aware that we need our own oil production as well as NEW refineries and nuclear power plants.
Sitting on your butt saying the other side don't have a good plan is not saying that you have any plan.
The time for action is NOW.

There already is a viable means to do away with oil imports.
If the US automobile fleet matched the fuel efficience of the cars used in Europe, today, the US would not need to import a drop of oil.

Well I am a Demo-Rat and have never said that. I think we went over there because George has a real hatred for Saddam. Let us not start with the caribou or I will bring up the bill shot down by the republicans that would have allowed us to investigate and fine OPEC and big oil for gouging.

i have trouble seeing how it could be all about oil when we have twice the amount of coal as anyone else in the world. if it was all about oil, we'd be knocking on canada's door... it'd be a lot easier.
... i've got some coal... you've got the caribou... let's get together and have a barbeque

Actually we wouldn't be in this mess if people in the late 70's would have listened to Jimmy Carter and done something about it but no they wanted to continue the decadence and voted for Reagan who got us in deep with the Saudis and Saddam and now we are paying for it, alternatives should have developed 35 years ago instead of always wanting to destroy our land and oceans and other peoples countries.
