Yes they do

Actually gizzards are muscular stomachs used by birds to grind up their food, since they don't have teeth to chew them. Kidneys are entirely separate and part of another body system. I included a few recipies in case your mother is interested.

According to Wikipeida: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gastrointestinal_tract
"The third organ is the stomach. In addition to a glandular stomach (proventriculus), birds have a muscular "stomach" called the ventriculus or "gizzard." The gizzard is used to mechanically grind up food."

According to Wikipedia: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=4060843&dopt=AbstractPlus
"Primary chicken kidney (CK) and chicken embryo kidney (CEK) cells were evaluated as possible substrates for growth of the cold-adapted attenuated influenza vaccine master strain A/Ann Arbor/6/60 (A/AA/6/60-ca)."

where did you get the idea it was the kidney ( unless you or someone killed and butchered the chicken) a whole chicken comes with neck - heart - gizzard and liver chicken livers can be bought by the pound only the liver is tender enough to be mashed ? ? ? ("my mil fed" ? ? ) - - MUM? I am 69 S M - - I have no reason to be looking at baby / toddler jared foods but the kidneys would be rather small (?) and do they have a kidney (?)

Yes. Every time I clean a chicken in preparation for dinner, I have to remove them.

I think so. Why wouldn't they have kidneys?

Yes, they used to come in the gizzards but now the grocery stores don't give you the gizzards with the chickens anymore. If you add them to your pot, they give it the best flavor.
