I think you mean "correct", neither sentence is "corrective" in the sense of "correcting an error". Both sentences are equally grammatically correct, although they state two different things. The first refers to a condition that used to prevail, i.e. when he was much younger, he used to write many letters, now that he is older, he doesn't write as many letters. The second sentence refers to an action that was occurring. The unstated rest of the thought would be something like "...before he was interrupted by the phonecall."

Why not just try " He wrote many letters."? Why do you need it in passive voice? Make it interesting!!! ACTIVE VOICE!!!

okay.. first "Corrective Sentence" isn't even a thing- do you mean which sentence is correct?

a. Is past tense
b. Is past participle.
