What I meant is at what resolution (pixel x pixel) is it projected on the big screen? Give the source of you answer if you can.

For film projection, it is going to depend on the grain size of the film used to originally shoot the movie, and then the grain size on the film running through the projector. Also some detail will be lost in the copying process.


For the DLP projectors that seem to be making significant headway it looks like 2048 by 1080.

Typical digital movie format is 2k, 2048 pixels wide, making it about the same as Blu-Ray. Newer movies are being shot in 4k, which has twice the pixels in each direction, or about 8MP. Most movies are still on film, which has higher resolution than Blu-Ray but not directly measurable in pixels.
