Rose, stop bleeding us dry and then calling us spongers it is getting boring !!

2007-11-09 09:10:12 · update #2

For Rose again.... I for one do not have an inferior personality (maybe you mean an inferiority complex). We Scots are just sick of being attacked, by he English, just for trying to make Scotland a better place to be and to live.If you want the same, fight for it instead of complaing.

It's wonderful Glasgow is hosting the Commonwealth Games. It is a fantastic city, wonderful architecture, festivals, museums, hotels, clubs, pubs, export transport links, many venues already in place to host these games. Yes! there is some poverty in the East End as in most large cities but already there have been vast improvements in housing there, not to mention Celtic FC Park which is a great stadium and could be usefulduring the games. There is also in Rangers FC Park and the wonderful Hampden Park amongst others, all up to 21st century standards, The great Kelvin Hall and Scotstoun showground, worth t mentioning as excellent places to host events. and will be doing so. To any one not happy the games are coming to Glasgow then it's just 'sour grapes'. Most of all it's known as the most friendly city in the world. Come and enjoy, come to cause trouble and we'll still welcome you with the famous 'Glesca Kiss' TO ROSE - Could it be that you and others have not fought enough to gain the benefits we have in Scotland? Scotlands Oil profits were shared amongst us all. Lots of people tend to forget what we have had to put up with. Don't you recall things like Scotland being subject to the infamous Poll Tax before any one else in Gt Britain? Didn't get many fighting our cause then did we? Incidentally I am not a Scottish Nationalist and I sincerely hope the rest of Britain get a fair share of everything due to them and wish London all the very best for the Olympics which I am sure they will handle amazingly. Again to Rose - I am Scottish and I certainly do not hate the English, nor hopefully do I have an inferiority complex. You openly state you are not English but spout a load of rubbish. All decent English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish people wish each other well in what they do or what they achieve. You mistakenly think there is great wealth in Scotland whereas in the majority or areas there is not. We appreciate that houses etc are more cheaper than England (referring to South here). My daughter bought a new build detached 4 bed, 4 bathroom house just over 6 yrs ago for just under £300,000 She is a solicitor with a large company who also have an office in London and if she relocated she would earn minimum £50,000 pa more so a lot seems to be 'swings and roundabouts'. I thought people with certain health problems and those over 60 got free prescriptions in England but on reading your posting I am now unsure. If that is the case then I agree that is grossly unfair. Just to add something else for you to moan about.....Do you realise in Scotland we get free personal health care for the elderly and over 60's get free travel to anywhere in Scotland by bus and concessions on other forms of public transport? If you are not happy do as we have done, get off your ----- and fight for your corner.PS Scotland's educations sytstem has been renowned for years and I really do not know why but it is a fact. Sad thing is (and I think entirely wrong) that in my youth for example if you did not attain sufficient qualifications to get in to a certain course here you went to England. What I cannot understand why was this allowed? I will say again you state you are not English but obviously you happily live there so don't you think it's time to look closer to home for all the things that annoy you?

Yes am delighted for Glasgow - but yet AGAIN no doubt ENGLAND will be providing all the money for it (OK via Scottish parliament via Whitehall). How do Scotland get away with it? Here we are in ENGLAND AND GIVING SCOTLAND everything we would like - down to free prescriptions, special drugs, education etc etc DON'T let us all forget there are VERY MANY POVERTY STRICKEN AREAS DOWN HERE IN THE SOUTH. You have great wealth up there in Scotland as do we further south - but perhaps you Scots should not be quite so selfish and just look a little bit past your own front door. By the way I am not English by birth or passport but have lived here long enough to see both sides of the coin.

OH DEAR MY SWEET LASSIE - LOOKS LIKE THE TRUTH HURTS.

My Goodness - have just read the rest of the replies to this question and am absolutely amazed. As I said I am NOT ENGLISH was not born nor raised up in this country - I really was just putting my opinion forward BUT what I did not realise was - you Scots either have very inferior personalitties or must hate the English so much that you are unable to take any criticism from anyone who is not born in Scotland OR EVEN LIVES south of your borders. God help us all.

I think its awesome, would be nice to have Scotland known for more than just Golf, Whisky and Nessie.

Regardless of any negative aspects ,we should all think how lucky any city would be to have such a prestigious event take place there.
Think of the extra business, jobs that will be created, boosts in tourism and so much more.

Chicago is bidding for the Olympic games which would also be a great accomplishment and benefit for the city.

Yes i do agree , im a Glaswegian and its a great city and it is booming and has been for a long time, however, poverty is a big issue and certain sectors of society are excluded from aspects of life the city has to offer , the economic , employment and even PR boost for the city can only benefit the people of Glasgow , hopefuly benefitting those who do need it though.
