We're talking here about the series of optical phenomena that took place in the sky over the U.S. states of Arizona and Nevada, and the Mexican state of Sonora on March 13, 1997.

No, they were NOT flares...flares don't fly in formation.
But, what was it?

Former Arizona Governor Fife Symington witnessed the event and said:
"To my astonishment this apparition appeared; this dramatically large, very distinctive leading edge with some enormous lights was traveling through the Arizona sky."

THE STORY:

Symington will appear on the Larry King Show tonight to discuss this sighting.

Serious posts only please, something "not of this Earth" was up there...
what was it?
what do YOU think?

@ quantum...
There are skeptics and there are believers.

@ kanesfig...
definitely not a fireball.

@ aceraime...
you need to Google it and get edumacated.

@ zander
@ mercury
Stealth or B2 Bombers do not hover.
UFO's are sighted ALL around the world.
Why Arizona? why not? That's where one of the many Dimensional Portals is located in which they travel through to our world....
these visitors are not extraterrestrial...
they are extradimensional..
think about it.

@ amansscie...
you saw the topic...why did you post your
unfortunate waste of space.

I believe that this is a man made phenomenon. Since Phoenix is close in proximity to military bases, this could be a new aircraft being tested. The lights are in a triangular shape, which reminds me of the body shape of a stealth bomber. However, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Want to share my personal experience.i was on terrace just watching stars overhead. Meanwhile between the stars i could distinguish a series of lights in v shape manner, firstly i consider it was just an illusion however later on i could I recognize it clearly an object moving as it was covering the stars behind it. It was not that much high, then i thought of b2 stealth bomber as it also have a v shape design but the thing it was not very much high and i could appreciate it well moreover it was not producing any sort of sound.but when i heard of Phoenix lights and have seen pictures of it i could surely say that object was more likely to be Phoenix lights

It's pretty well-established that it was flares dropped from an aircraft on exercises at a nearby air force base. See the Wikipedia article on the subject for a cogent explanation:

sorry, but BALLS OF LIGHT don't account for an alien space craft.

if they were THAT bold to fly a ship over a city, why wouldn't they be sited in OTHER areas of the world...........

AND WHY do aliens KEEP showing up in Arizona????
perhaps its because the military has a bit of room to play out there. It is practically in the middle of a desert right?
why would ALIENS find a desert of any interest?

They could even be a fireball bouncing off the atmosphere - known as an earthgrazer

Actually, flares DO fly in formation when dropped at regular intervals from a plane or helicopter.

sorry - I believe this to be a man-made spectacle.
